The National Road: Now the third most popular vacation activity for U.S. travelers, cultural and heritage tourism attracts a large and lucrative segment of the travel industry. One popular excursion for many is traveling the historic National Road. The National Road carries you through the center of the downtown Cambridge Historic District where you can still find examples of 19th century architecture. The Guernsey County Courthouse is in the center of town with a marble Civil War Soldiers’ Monument standing in front. The Soldiers’ Monument commemorates the patriotism, hardships and sacrifices of those from Guernsey County, who answered the country’s call in time of peril. Cambridge benefited culturally and financially because of its location to nearby natural resources and routes of transportation. Find out more about the National Road by clicking here.
